UFW Foundation urges DACA recipients to renew applications before they expire; Salinas office continues providing services to undocumented

Salinas, CA — For two years the UFW Foundation has been continuously working to both inform the undocumented community about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and to assist individuals in the application process.  As part of this effort, UFW Foundation is hosting a group processing event on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 in Greenfield, Calif., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. so DACA grantees can renew their applications.

Grantees must renew their DACA and employment authorization forms within 120 days before their date of expiration. To date, the UFW Foundation’s Salinas office has assisted hundreds of individuals with their applications.

“We encourage all DACA beneficiaries to renew their applications before they expire and the community must have no fear of reapplying for deferred action status,” said Ricardo Nuñez, Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)-accredited representative for the UFW Foundation.  Nuñez along with the Salinas team has helped residents of Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties with immigration services for more than seven years. “Our office is your home for honest information and honest help,” he added.

Services on the day of the event will be provided at a low cost and include a free membership in the UFW Foundation. People renewing their application must bring the following items: (1) a copy of their original DACA application, (2) approval notice, (3) employment authorization document, (4) Social Security card and (5) A California ID.

A limited number of spaces are available. Please reserve space by Thursday, January 29, 2015 by calling the UFW Foundation at 831-758-2611. Some walk-ins will be accepted, but they are not guaranteed.

The UFW Foundation is a Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)-recognized organization that offers immigration legal services to low-income families in California and Arizona. As a BIA-accredited organization, the UFW Foundation will also be providing services for the new programs under President Obama’s immigration executive order. Those programs are DAPA and DACA.  DAPA (Deferred Action for Parental Accountability) is for undocumented parents whose children are citizens or permanent residents, and Expanded DACA (expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is for undocumented individuals who came into the United States before they were 16 years of age.  Information sessions are held weekly, see calendar of events at www.sisepuede.org

As individuals prepare for the renewal of DACA, DAPA and expanded DACA, the UFW Foundation reminds applicants to beware of notaries “notarios” or other service providers who are not authorized to provide legal immigration advice. If anyone believes that they might have been a victim of fraud, they can call the UFW Foundation’s toll free number (877) 881-8281 or the California Bar Association at (866) 879–4532. For more information on the DAPA and DACA programs, please visit www.sisepuede.org
