PHOTO EXHIBIT IN MEMORY OF CESAR CHAVEZ

PHOTO EXHIBIT IN MEMORY OF CESAR CHAVEZ FEATURED AT
THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS

In celebration of the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, a life-long Catholic and founder of the United Farm Workers, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels will present  photo exhibit entitled “Cesar Chavez: A Spiritual Man of Family, Peace and Action”. The exhibit features several images of Chavez taken by Victor Aleman.  It will run from March 31st through April 30, 2010.  The Cathedral is located at 555 W. Temple Street, downtown Los Angeles.

Seeing Cesar Chavez through the lens of Victor Aleman offers clear insights into the heart and soul of a deeply religious man.

“More than anything else Cesar Chavez was a deeply religious man who followed the teachings of Jesus Christ,” said Aleman.   “This photo exhibit has less to do with pictures of a great human being and far more to do with capturing the essential Cesar Chavez – as he was in his daily life, ever powered and ever fueled by his belief in God, loyalty to his Church and openness to people of all religious persuasions.”

Aleman worked with Chavez and the United Farm Workers (UFW) for 10 years.  He served as the managing editor of “El Malcriado,” the UFW membership publication.  He also co-founded Radio Campesina KUFW, the first farm worker radio station, and served as the director of the publication department for the UFW’s monthly publication “Food and Justice.”  Aleman currently serves as Editor of “Vida Nueva,” the Spanish-language newspaper of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
