We were with 400 people at the Cesar Chavez Foundation’s 11th annual Si Se Puede Awards Dinner in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 31, the anniversary of Cesar’s birthday. One of those honored was Paul Schrade, former western director of the United Auto Workers, who brought Senator Robert F. Kennedy to Delano the two times he came. Paul was one of most loyal supporters of Cesar and the farm workers in the 1960s, and was seriously wounded when RFK was assassinated on June 5, 1968. Paul risked everything to bring justice to farm workers and end an unjust war in Vietnam. Also honored was another role model, now-retired California Supreme Court Associate Justice Carlos Moreno, the only Latino and most progressive voice on the state high court.
