Santa Rosa: Farm worker’s daughter gets UFW ¡Si Se Puede!® scholarship

Santa Rosa, Calif.—Proud United Farm Workers members protected by union contracts will look on as UFW Internal Organizing Coordinator Susy Valle presents a $1000 scholarship to Ariana Montero Pille, the daughter of a union member at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Santa Rosa. Similar ceremonies are taking place in Salinas, Livingston and Madera.

Pille is the daughter of Ignacio Montero Ramirez, a, UFW member at St. Supery Estate Vineyards & Winery. She is a sophomore at the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College, pursuing a degree in Business Administration/Agriculture. This is her first year as a recipient of the ¡Si Se Puede!® Scholarship award.

The scholarship program was established by union members to support students who demonstrate a commitment to completing their educations in spite of financial hardships. These awards are intended to help them achieve educational goals and can be applied towards any education-related costs, including textbooks, lab fees, uniforms and other expenses associated with their studies. The ¡Si Se Puede!® Scholarships are made possible by generous commitments from the union members.

Who: UFW Internal Organizing Coordinator Susy Valle and Ariana Montero Pille, daughter of a union member receiving a UFW scholarship, her family members, other union members and retirees, and UFW staff.

What: Presentation of a $1,000 ¡Si Se Puede!®  Scholarship made possible by contributions from UFW members under union contracts.
